Ah, music, the make or break when it comes to making a good scene. Without good use of sound and music (or lack of use, in some cases), you can really ruin the mood. For our project, we’ve looked at the script, and decided what kind of music to use where, and if it should be used diagetically, or non-diagetically. The only problem is, low budget, limited time. When we discussed this aspect of our project, we decided that we could either write the music ourselves, or get a royalty free track. Now, personally, I really don’t like using royalty free tracks. I’ve written and recorded the music for a majority of my assignments in the past. There’s something about using royalty free tracks that takes away from the authenticity of the project. It makes it feel less personal. Plus, it’s almost impossible finding the specific type of track you’re looking for. We’ve already tried a few times, but everything’s too bouncy and happy and we hate that. And so, the alternative is to write and record. Now, I love writing music. I can easily throw a simple arrangement together. But the only problem with this is that I haven’t picked up my guitar or touched the piano in about a year and a bit, so, I’m pretty damn rusty. If we want to have tracks made specifically for this, we’d need to contact fellow musicians with good recording equipment. But we don’t know if we currently have access to that. So, our options are; turn to our musically gifted friends to record our tracks, or spend a few days surfing the internet for a good royalty free track to use. If neither of those work, I need to get practising again.
