Lectorial Week 6

For our lectorial this week, we each individually received a beating for not writing enough blog posts. Just kidding, but we were given a serious talk about having to write more. It was helpful because they then explained the rules we have to follow, and how to do things. It gave us some form of direction, rather than at the start of the year when they were literally like, “oh by the way, you have a blog that you have to keep updating, here you go”. So now I actually feel like I know what I’m doing when I write these now, and I understand what I can and can’t do better. And hey, it’s even made me grow to enjoy writing these more. I feel like I can just share stuff that I want to share about movies and stories, rather than hoping that someone will be interested before I try to show them.

Anyway, afterwards, we were given a talk on how storytelling actually works, which, is really essential in a job about storytelling, I guess. But they were talking about a formula that stories usually follow, but I find that I prefer watching movies that break this formula. To be honest, I am not really into the whole superhero direction that the movie industry has turned to. I kind of wish that there was a bit more variety. I bet that someone in this course has the ability to break that chain one day. Who knows, it could be you. How’s that for motivation?
