The topic we just studied in Introduction to Cinema studies was on ‘Cinematography’. And who better to study than David Fincher? So we were made to watch Zodiac, which, I had seen before, but happily watched again anyway. Now, I can’t say that this is my favourite Fincher film, but it still was very well done. It is probably the most reflective of his style though. I’ve noticed that he really does not like the handheld technique. Almost every shot in Zodiac was steady and locked down, and he really only focused on what was important. Like I said in my Cinema Blog, it gives the illusion that instead of looking through a camera, you’re looking through a window into another world. It’s like instead of being controlled, the camera is its own person.
