Amnesia

Amnesia (dir. Oscar Li & Mia Taufa) follows Sam, an aspiring musician on the verge of industry breakthrough. However, his big moment becomes quickly overshadowed by a series of mysterious letters, detailing a night which has escaped his memory. Desperate to keep his life and career intact, Sam is determined to retrace his forgotten steps and prove his innocence, even if it means doing the very thing he swore he never would.

The process of creating Amnesia has helped to enhance our filmmaking abilities through the thorough processes that we took to plan, script, storyboard, shoot, and edit our film. During the planning stages, we brainstormed a number of ways that we could convey this narrative’s tableau shots, and decided to draw inspiration from paintings during the renaissance period, as well as the realism movement. We used our knowledge of art history as well as the inspiration of directors we admire to plan three tableau shots that we thought captured the assignment’s directions; a silhouetted figure at a window, a wide shot of a lush green landscape, and a cafe setting. Through the making of Amnesia we cultivated our abilities in creating symmetrical shots that were visually pleasing to the viewer, and we found ourselves constantly changing and redeveloping our ideas in search of the best way to explore the themes of greed, confusion and self-seeking.
