This film scene talks about a female being followed and attacked by strangers on a silent street and then eventually disappearing.
The main thing in this project is the focus point, which is the main technique for attracting the viewer’s attention to the part of the scene that the viewer should pay attention to.
It not only affects the clarity and appearance of the image, but also has a direct impact on the narrative effect and emotional expression of the film.
As usual, I drew the storyboard according to the script to make it easier for the actors to understand the content during shooting.
However, the fight scenes have always been a big challenge. As a relatively inexperienced director, the design of the fight scenes was a huge challenge for me. I didn’t know how to design the scenes to give them a feeling of realism and shock. So I watched a lot of fight scenes and noticed the use of various camera shots and action arrangements before I started to get inspired.
Another problem that was encountered during the filming was the actors’ tacit understanding.
In the beginning, Kristine and Kayiu were my actors. However, due to the lack of understanding between them, the filming was not able to make good physical contact. For example, there was no way to do ‘fighting’; they were embarrassed. This resulted in the movements appearing very unnatural and hard, affecting the realism and flow of the scene. I tried this many times and ultimately did not have a good result. Faced with this problem, I decided to change the actors. I found two friends who I have known for a long time to be the new actors. The tacit understanding between them made the ‘fighting’ process natural and smooth, very real. We would discuss and design each move together, and they would make many practical suggestions based on their own habits. We didn’t have to adjust the action so often, and the filming schedule was much faster.
In the end, during the editing period, I discovered some shaking in the frame.
This was caused by the fact that I was not holding the camera steady while shooting. This is something that I will pay attention to and practice to improve in the future. The final edit of the fight scene was very suitable for my purpose. It was short, but the action was smooth. I am grateful to my actors for their excellent performances. Of course, the rewards were a treat for the meal.
In future work, I will pay more attention to the choice of actors. Having actors who have a rapport is the first step to a successful shoot.
