‘The Breakup Text’ by Raia Jose captures a young teenage girl in her bedroom when all of a sudden she is sent a heartbreaking message. This leads her into a devastated state where she isolates herself from her phone and everyone.

The project links back to our studies of ‘interpreting a script into a scene’. From this I wrote my script taking inspiration from the film ‘Twilight: New Moon’ when Bella falls into ‘depression’ after being broken up. That scene inspired me as there is a limited amount of dialogue and captures the characters emotion. Along with the blue filter of the scene, it emphasises on her emotion and isolating herself in her room. The ‘time lapse’ montage inspired my script of showing the days passing by but the main character was still ‘stuck’ in her room.

I created a storyboard, before I began filming, to help understand the angles and shots that I had envisioned for my media piece. This was very helpful to me when filming as it gave me an idea of what I needed and where to film.

I am fortunate enough to have secured the talent of Phoebe Del Pilar as my main character in my piece and my sister Janna who helped as camera operator, while I took on the role as director. Upon filming, we faced a few challenges with the script and figuring out how I would realise this on scene but I had to take initiative of changing things, specifically the script and what I could capture.

I am happy with how it turned out, but originally I had music that I specifically wanted for this piece but due to copyright restrictions had to put music that would suit it but not add to the emotions of the scene.
