FREAKOUT

A young woman frantically paces around her room. It is unknown as to what is disturbing her but it is evident that she is paranoid about whatever is to come after. As time progresses; her mental state deteriorates as her surroundings start to come to life and the sounds around her start to amplify.

I came up with this scene with the intention to challenge myself by experimenting with lighting and camera shots and movement. I gathered inspiration from the lighting in Argento’s film ‘Suspiria’ (1977) and the camera shots and angles used in ‘Fallen Angels’ (1995) by Wong Kar-Wai as a way to showcase scene coverage, alongside with everything I learnt this semester. I filmed every shot with an iPhone and I will admit, it was a bit of a challenge to commit to it but in the end, I think my results were a success. Unfortunately, however, due to copyright restrictions I am unable to share my original edited video on to this website. Instead, I had to replace the song I had which was Freakout by 1800 PAIN with a decent sounding audio I found on Free Music Archive. The song Freakout by 1800 PAIN is what helped me come up with this idea in the first place, so it is a bit disappointing to not be able to showcase my work in its original form. Nonetheless, I’m still proud of it and I’m happy to have the opportunity to share it with you viewers. Please enjoy!
