Unexpected News features two characters, Anna and Maddy. Maddy rushes into the room and delivers the breaking news to Anna that a friend of theirs has died in a car accident. The scene concludes with Anna leaving the room with a sombre expression.

My research project focused on decoupage and camera coverage, exploring their impact on creating engaging scenes and their importance in cinematic storytelling. Inspired by Aunt May’s pivotal moment in Spiderman when she learns about Uncle Ben;s death, I aimed to evoke similar emotions in my scene. After thorough research, I crafted a script centred on the emotional revelation of tragic news. This included strategic choices like close-ups on Maddy’s sombre expression to effectively convey the character’s emotions and essential narrative elements.

This project deepened my understanding of decoupage and camera coverage, enhancing my skills in meticulous planning and shot selection. Unexpected News underscores the importance of these techniques in creating emotionally engaging and visually cohesive scenes, reinforcing their value in my future film projects.
