K-Pop Dance Cover : Where To Find Them ?
This radio feature is created by us (Violet, Tracy and Sherry) for a couple weeks, from coming up the topic, to interviewing, site recording to editing, all these processes are finished collaboratively. K-pop is a common topic that we all interested in and have passion for, therefore we decided to research and interview on the K-pop dance cover community, which is closer and more exposed to the public and introduce it through this radio feature. With personal connection of our team member, we are lucky to interview Ken, who is a cinematographer that does most of the K-pop dance cover filming around Melbourne to talk with us. Also we are pleased to have a half-day tour with Ken on one of his busy filming days, so we can record different voices and sounds on site by ourselves.
The biggest challenge of the project will probably be structuring and editing, as we have many to cover, also we will have to introduce background information of this community to those who have never heard of it. The narration and how we structure the radio feature is tricky, as it will get boring so easily. So, we have tried to take the balance between narration, interviews and music to produce an interesting radio feature. We are all very satisfied with the result and had learn a lot during the recording and editing process of it.
Ever wondered who’s behind the lens capturing Melbourne’s electrifying K-pop dance cover scene, transforming city streets and hidden studios into vibrant stages? Ken Leong, a Malaysian-born K-pop enthusiast, found his true calling in Melbourne’s vibrant dance cover scene. After joining the renowned AO Crew as a dancer, Ken’s passion for capturing the energy and precision of K-pop performances led him to pick up the camera. With a natural talent for videography and unwavering dedication, he quickly became the crew’s sought-after videographer, showcasing their talent to the world. Today, we’re stepping into Ken’s world, following him through a day of filming and navigating the highs and lows of Melbourne’s hidden K-pop dance cover universe.
Producing our radio programme required a detailed collaborative process. We first had to identify relevant community topics and find suitable interviewees, which encountered a number of obstacles. The biggest difficulty we encountered in this process was finding suitable and willing interviewees. Along with coordinating with team members, we had to learn broadcasting skills, manage broadcast dialogue and use studio equipment. We also encountered technical problems with audio capture, as we used a different studio than the one we used for practice, but the guests were understanding and agreed to a second recording.
In the end, we were satisfied with the final product and our team was committed and willing to help each other. The experience taught us the importance of preparation, flexibility and teamwork, all of which are crucial.
In this episode, we have invited 3 different guests sharing 3 differnet topics, we have Ann from RMIT Design Archives to share the upcoming Melbourne Deisgn Week and what they have prepared for. Also we have Jimmy, an acitve dancers for many yeats within the Street Dance Scene in Melbourne to share the community and dive a bit with us. Last but not least, we also have Nicholson, the cinematographer from “Jia”, a short film that will be screened on St. Kilda Film Festival in June to talk us through their film production and also what’s going on the festival! Hope you will enjoy our show!
