Room with a View 2024

Making radio shows and features with 3RRR

Can you hear me now? – By Luca, Jordan, and Nathaniel

Documentary:

For our radio feature story we looked closely at the social media usage of two young Melbourne rock bands Second Hand High and Paint For Walls. Thus sparking the questions: Where is the line between making music for the love of making music and making music for social media? When does a social media presence become necessary? And when does it become more important than the music? For Melbourne alternative band, Second Hand High, despite the “ethos” of the band still being rooted in making music, social media has become more present and more of a priority than it perhaps should be. In contrast, Rock band Paint for Walls does not use social media in any capacity. But is there a right way to do things? Find out in this Radio Feature Story.

Triple R Radio Show

On the 20th of May our group Luca, Jordan and Nate went into the triple R studios to record our Radio show for Room with a view. Which involved some great tracks and very insightful interviews, on current and emerging projects and topics. Kicked things off with Jordans Interview with Sarah Sturton-Gill a child psychologist  to talk about how social media affects Gen-Z’s mental and physical wellbeing. Then we went over to a pre-recorded Interview by Nate with Marisa Martin whois a filmmaker from Enemies of reality, with over 21 years of filmmaking experience. Who is highly skilled in various types of production including animation, production design and illustration. Marisa has also run ‘Lights Canberra Action’ Filmmaking festival since 2004 and has also been a member of the ScreenACT. This was a very topical interview as Marisa spoke about the Australian Film Industry and how it has grown over the time, whilst also bringing up current topics as she is working on the STOP campaign, to spark awareness against sextual assaults on campus across universities in Canberra. Then to finish off the hour of fun we had in the studios Luca Interviewed Ryan Bandong on the first ‘And Scene’ festival, a film festival being hosted right here in the capitol of Melbourne hosted by staff and students of RMIT to showcase the years work of the film and media students. We had an absolute blast in the studio and we hope you do when listening to our show.
