‘Go for Broke’ aims to break out of the comfort zone of traditional game shows by subverting the usual goal. Instead of trying to win money, the goal is to lose money. Contestants participate in a series of simple yet challenging games designed to deplete their funds. Each round will present new opportunities for contestants to make decisions to ensure they lose as much cash as possible. The ultimate goal is to experience the journey from riches to rags, with the last remaining “poorest” contestant being crowned the winner.
The creative process of “Go for broke” began with developing a concept that was the opposite of the goal of all ordinary game shows. The concepts were designed to ensure that the contestants lose all their money by making the game generally simple while giving it some depth. The 20 contestants were individually selected and showed their eagerness to complete this exaggerated short game, while the visually dynamic backgrounds conjured up an evolution from grandeur to decay. Another major aspect was the gameplay, which was helmed by a talented and engaging host and backed by a well-coordinated production team. The recordings depicted the tense moments of the two during rounds of losing money, and were then re-edited to capture the interest of the audience. The episodes were then transferred to the channel and are a great example of the show’s premise presented to its target audience.
