In my contribution to ‘And Scene’ festival I largely focused on my work within the design team, which included creating posters that were used for advertising and informative promotional value. Our designs were posted around the [RMIT] campus, to our social media, and thanks to Plakkit, also featured in several locations throughout Melbourne.
Having a cohesive style for our posters aided us in the advertising of ‘And Scene’ by creating memorable visuals that would be recognised as our branding, being available to the public in high traffic locations meant that a key focus of ours was to attract an audience that would align with the values of the festival and also enjoy the content that would be featured in it.
It was important for us as the design team to create posters that were consistent with our theme and logo, following a carefully curated style guide that included a colour palette and fonts that were used to direct the design process, helping us to keep our posters, social posts and website cohesive with each other to effectively communicate ‘And Scene’ as a genuine brand/event, and less of a project.
The posters created for ‘And Scene’ were crucial in communicating important information such as dates for our fundraising events, festival times and locations, and as promotion for the festival itself. As we were the main form of visual branding and advertising (aside from our social media) for the event, our main concern was to create posters that were visually appealing to our audience, whilst being comprehensible both in design and instruction, producing effective and accessible visual advertising.
