Fundraiser – Trivia Night

My main role in the production of this festival was helping raise funds to ultimately put the festival on. I, together with Kayla and Nani, organised the trivia night we held at The Peacock in the first week of May. We sold almost 50 tickets, making the festival around $400 in the one night. Our main goal with trivia was to raise funds, and also to generate some excitement and awareness around our festival.

We chose pop culture as our theme for the trivia in order to keep it as broad as possible and appeal to as many people as we could. We made use of our own connections by hosting the night at The Peacock in Northcote, where Josie (one of our own) works, and was able to get the beer garden for us to use free of charge. We then promoted the event through our socials and our website, whilst also telling as many of our friends as we could about it. In creating the questions, our main focus was to keep the trivia fun and light hearted, so we added as many interactive rounds as possible which created a great energy in the space. We did rounds that included, guess the celebrity baby, guess the movie by the Letterboxd review, and finish the lyric, even getting participants to run up to the mic to sing it out for bonus points.

On the night of trivia, we put up some beautifully designed merch posters and discount codes, to encourage those who attended to pre-order merch, in order to generate further funding for our festival as well as provide some exclusivity. We organised free opening night tickets, a bottle of wine and some chocolate as the prize for each member of the winning team in order to create some friendly competition and add some drive to the night other than our own personal interest (to get money for And Scene). I also took part in MC’ing the night alongside Nani, where we tried our best to keep the fun and energy going, which I may say I think we did so quite successfully. Overall, trivia was a great success, not only in producing funds, but establishing our festival to a community wider than ourselves.
