This semester the students of the “Instinct and Intention” Media Studio have produced work that has challenged, inspired and moved both myself and one other.
Their discoveries and breakthroughs with their screen editing craft have been built on a semester full of exploration and investigation of the history of screen editing, moving through a wide variety of styles of cutting, experimenting with genre, sound design and music.
They shot, directed and interviewed one another, sharing their stories for the camera, from both in front and behind it. They shot and edited music videos, shot and edited original scenes they’ve written themselves, and shot and edited commercials selling everything from private detectives to extreme olive oil!
Their major project, being exhibited in these pages, is an Edit Series: 3x separate works in 3x different editing styles (which we refer to broadly as Narrative, Documentary and Commercial), each with a duration of 30-120 seconds, a show reel portfolio to demonstrate their diverse skill sets as editors.
I am very proud of their work and I hope their are too. Enjoy watching!
The Instinct and Intention Media Studio acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations as the Traditional Owners of the land on which RMIT University stands.
