My initial goal in choosing this course was to be able to create more emotionally appealing videos. At the beginning of the semester, I once said in class that my friends commented that my work was as boring as a glass of water.Looking back at that video now, I found that I was overly pursuing the authenticity, rationality and completeness of the narrative, thus ignoring many editing techniques that can mobilize the audience’s emotions, such as montage, highlighting the characters’ expressions, etc.I think I learned a lot in this class about some slow-paced, emotional editing, and it was reflected in my narrative final project. Through montage editing, adding shaking effects to the screen according to the sound, and inserting some flashing images, I created a pretty good horror atmosphere.
But when it comes to non-narrative, fast-paced commercial editing, I think I am still weak. For fast-paced editing, I always feel like the pace of my videos isn’t exciting enough. I have summarized some reasons. One of them may be that I am not good at choosing different camera movements to express different emotions when shooting, especially the transition between cut and cut.
