Emily’s Edit series

By Emily Baxter
My narrative edit is called “Haunted by the Beat”. The film follows a girl who acquires a tape deck on Halloween. She tries to play her tape but mysteriously nothing happens so she decides to go to be and sort it out in the morning only to be kept awake by the musical ghost that haunts the tape deck. She eventually makes a deal with the ghost that if she can record the ghost and put it on the internet then the ghost will leave her alone.
My documentary edit is called “The Fight Against Slugs” about my sister and her journey to find a humane way to stop slugs eating her garden.
The commercial edit is for “EXTREME OLIVE OIL” which is just regular olive oil but extreme.

This semester was everything I expected and more. My main goal for this semester was to expand my editing skillset and experiment with a variety of editing techniques. I think there was more of a variety of editing genres than I originally anticipated. The classes that I have done previously have been mostly narrative editing so doing other things like more documentary and commercial editing was good. I liked that there was a mix of filming our own footage and being given footage and a brief and being told to cut it together. I think I could have taken advantage of the feedback aspect of showing the edits in class. I took on the feedback given to other people but did not really volunteer anything I had done to get feedback.
