I had a very productive semester in the studio Instinct and Intention. Throughout this semester, the course has not only provided me with an insight into the history of editing, but also the techniques and methods of different types of editing. At the beginning of this semester, my goals and aspirations for the semester were to learn editing techniques in a more systematic way, to gain advanced techniques in Premiere Pro, and to improve my narrative skills in editing. As the course progressed, my expectations were all realised, and I was particularly impressed with the practical tips that Sebastian shared during the class on editing, and how the attention to detail has greatly simplified my editing work and increased my productivity. Through a series of class exercises and reflections, we learnt about the different styles of narrative editing, documentary editing and commercial editing. I have learnt how to choose editing techniques that match the needs of different types of content to make the pace and narrative of the film more compelling and engaging. Watching the editing works of my classmates and listening to the feedback from my teacher and peers also helped me to find out my own weaknesses in editing and what I can improve. In this process, my understanding of editing has become more comprehensive and profound, and I am no longer limited to the technical level, but I can think from the perspective of artistic creation and audience experience. I have increased my enthusiasm and confidence in editing through this semester, and I hope to use what I have gained from this semester in my future studies to create more video content.
