While preparing for their highly anticipated year 12 exams, best friends CLARA and ABIGAIL discover they have conflicting views on securing their dream future. Year 12 student Clara, strongly believes she needs to receive a high ATAR to live out her post-high school dream. On the other hand, Abigail believes there are other pathways to success, with the ATAR not being as significant as Clara thinks. As they continue studying at the local library, the characters wonder whether Clara’s obstacle is her “lack” of studying or her negative mindset.

During the process of creating my original scene titled “Mindset,” I explored new creative techniques that are now incorporated into my director’s process. I usually struggle with the scripting part of my process. However, the envelope exercise conducted during class was a key component in helping me overcome this previous weakness. Additionally, I discovered how rehearsals built trust between everyone in the cast and allowed moments of collaboration. It also assisted me in drawing out the best performances from my actors, which was my studio goal.
