Bittersweet

“Bittersweet”

This scene is a part of a bigger story of two girls that grew up together. In this scene the two girls are getting ready for graduation, one of them not wanting to go as she just wants to leave high school behind, and the other wanting to go as this remains her life. It shows the difference of opinion and how they both want different things but that doesn’t mean one option is better than the other.

The process of my original scene was what has now become part of my directing process. Writing this scene was something I had not really done before, as my VCE media final project had no dialogue. I found it difficult to write natural sounding dialogue and directing it in a way that it would flow nicely. To overcome this issue I got my two actors to read through the script and allowed them to suggest different words if it was what they thought sounded more natural. I learnt how tricky it is to direct something you have written. There was more of a set way that I thought of how it should be performed rather than when directing someone else’s work it is easier to comprehend it in different ways. I also chose to film the scene myself which is not a choice I would make again I found this left me missing the little details that I would’ve otherwise found extremely important. Overall, this experience taught me more about what I would like to do the next time I direct and how I can improve my skills.
