In today’s digital age, social media has become an indispensable part of our lives. With the rapid development of AI technology, the ecosystem of social media is constantly evolving. This change not only affects the way information is disseminated but also redefines people’s understanding of AI on social media. In my final work, I aim to guide the audience to reflect on whether they have encountered information bubbles created by algorithms on social media, as well as the impact of AI on personal privacy.

I interviewed individuals of different ages and backgrounds to understand their social media usage habits and how they perceive the influence of algorithms on information acquisition. Some respondents expressed concerns about information bubbles, believing that algorithmic recommendations often present only information that aligns with their existing viewpoints, thereby limiting their exposure to diverse opinions and perspectives. Additionally, respondents voiced unease about the collection and use of personal data on social media, fearing that their information could be misused. These conversations reveal a core concern: under the influence of AI algorithms, the information we receive may become increasingly homogeneous, leading to a narrowing of perspectives and a lack of diversity, as well as AI’s role in invading their privacy.

In my daily life, I frequently encounter stories from friends about their bank cards being fraudulently charged or receiving unsolicited advertisements from unknown sources. These experiences underscored the relevance of my project on AI and privacy. Throughout the creative process, I found that the most successful aspect was effectively capturing the genuine feelings of the interviewees regarding privacy issues. Their stories not only added emotional resonance to the work but also prompted the audience to reflect on their own social media behaviors and data protection awareness.

However, I soon recognized a significant limitation in my approach: I primarily interviewed young people aged 19 to 25. While their stories and viewpoints provided valuable emotional insights, this focus restricted the diversity of perspectives necessary to fully explore such a complex topic. The voices of older generations, as well as experts in the field, could have contributed significantly to a more comprehensive understanding of the implications of AI on privacy.

Through my conversations with peers, I observed that their views on privacy and social media usage varied considerably. Some young people expressed a casual attitude towards sharing personal information online, believing that as long as they avoided sensitive topics, there was little risk involved. Conversely, others displayed heightened caution, fearing that every piece of information they shared could be misused or exploited. This disparity in attitudes reflects a broader diversity and complexity in privacy awareness among my peers.

Engaging with this range of perspectives revealed a critical insight: relying solely on the viewpoints of young people fails to capture the intricate relationship between AI and privacy fully. If given the opportunity to further refine this work, I would seek to incorporate the insights of older individuals or privacy experts. Their perspectives could shed light on the long-term implications of current practices and highlight the historical context of privacy concerns, offering a richer narrative that resonates across generations.

Additionally, I recognized the value of including specific cases of data breaches and privacy violations. Personal anecdotes from my peers were compelling, but they often lacked the depth and analytical context necessary to grasp the broader implications of these issues. By incorporating real-world examples, I could provide the audience with tangible illustrations of the risks associated with inadequate data protection, helping them understand the urgency of addressing these challenges.

Throughout the creative process, I also faced practical challenges, particularly in conducting interviews. Initially, I opted for video calls to facilitate the conversations, but my nervousness often impacted the quality of the interviews. I found it difficult to maintain a natural flow of dialogue, which affected the depth of the responses. After several attempts, we decided to adjust our approach, allowing each interviewee to record their own video responses. This change not only alleviated the pressure I felt during live interviews but also provided respondents with the opportunity to express their thoughts more comfortably and thoughtfully. The resulting videos exhibited greater clarity and depth, enriching the overall quality of the project.

This experience taught me the importance of flexibility and adaptability in the creative process. Challenges can often lead to new insights and improved methods. I learned that embracing change and being open to different approaches can enhance the quality of my work. Furthermore, it reinforced the notion that collaboration and communication are essential in gathering diverse perspectives.

Ultimately, this studio experience has been eye-opening. I now understand that addressing complex issues such as privacy in the digital age requires a multifaceted approach. Incorporating diverse voices and perspectives is essential to creating a comprehensive narrative. Moving forward, I am committed to expanding the scope of my projects to include a wider range of viewpoints, particularly from those with expertise in data security and privacy rights.

I will carry these lessons into my future work, striving to make my projects more inclusive and profound. By engaging with a variety of perspectives, I hope to help audiences better understand and reflect on the pressing issues surrounding privacy and security in our increasingly digital world. This experience has reinforced my belief in the power of storytelling as a tool for raising awareness and fostering dialogue about the critical issues that affect us all. In a time when technology evolves rapidly, and privacy concerns become more pronounced, I aim to contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way, ultimately empowering individuals to take charge of their personal information and make informed decisions in the digital landscape.
