Alexandra Kovanidis GIRLHOOD

GIRLHOOD

Girlhood explores a collective yet individual experience females go through that is not restricted by an exclusive age range or experience. Girlhood enters the two personas of sweet innocence that are associated with “girlhood” and “femininity” featuring the “vulnerable” persona, which features the “innocence” and hyper-femininity often associated with young girls that still experience a sorrowful relationship with girlhood which is featured, as well as the “duality” of girlhood the “battered” tough persona speaking to the pain and what is typically identified as “masculine” traits that girlhood also provides. The series features the two interpretations of “girlhood” to symbolise that both live within the new brand of complex girlhood culture and feminism, that there is vulnerability, tenderness, and sadness as well as violence, anger, and toughness. Utilising a magazine structure that mocks and parodies the magazine structure and medium that glamourises and exploits people, aesthetics, and experiences.
