Welcome to INC, a lively office space that once housed a passionate workforce…
But one day, an office worker’s life is turned upside down on when he comes to work to discover the office completely desserted- well except for the trusty janitor.
As a result of downsizing and optimization, he’s now forced to take his orders from a printer who cares little about his wellbeing or his silly human emotions-
but just how much can this employee take under the thumb of a ruthless computerised boss?
And how long would it be before he too was replaced?
Our team sought to create a commentary around the recent developments in artificial inteligence within a not-so-hypothetical takeover of a creative workforce. Framed in the style of a dry satirical comedy, we present the real world fear for job security while hypothesizing the potential reprocussions Ai will have in any workforce.
In our hypothetical scenario, we endowed the printer with many traits of an overbearing manager but exaggerated to a nearly absurd degree- infusing stereotypical office moments with a sense of over-dramatic flare as the printer blows things way out of proportion. Within somewhat comedic parallel we aimed to portray the potential strain an oppressive boss can have on a normal office worker, with the constant search for shortcuts and optimisation ultimately taking the largest toll on the human involvement within the clockwork of an office. Our main character remains rather grounded in his fear for his job security, embodying the common mindset as we navigate through this confusing time of AI evolution and the soon to be revolution within most workforces- culminating in the choice to walk out the door or pull the plug.
In creating this short-film, we try to identify each of our strengths or weaknesses, proceeding to learn how we can highlight our skills while challenging ourselves to up-skill our areas of weakness in a supportive and encouraging environment. This work and this course challenges us to creatively incorporate synthetic media into a story driven narrative, pushing us to experiment and discover new and creative ways to use the ever improving technology, and in INC, we aim to do so while promoting discussion on the ever-nearing possibility of our modern day lives being dictated by computers as unassuming as a printer.
We hope you enjoy INC.
