He Sucks is about a young girl and her blood-sucking vampire boyfriend, who terrorises her, causing her restless nights and a taste for revenge…
I was chosen to be an editor for this short film. Jazmin’s ‘He Sucks’ was the one I wanted to work on the most, listening to all the pitches, so I was very grateful to be a part of it as an editor. I have some background in editing but only as a hobby, this was my first time editing a proper short film. Jazz and I began by breaking the scenes down and dividing them into which ones we would be working on. We also had a checklist to go by, which really helped a lot. With the scenes that were assigned to me, I madesure to have a deadline, so that I could stay on track. I needed to finish certain scenes before my own, unoffical due date, just so that I could help myself and it would give me time for feedback, and to correct those feedbacks given. My main role was to colour grade. Turning this into black and white was easy but highlighting the red was very hard me and unfortunately, this was something I could not achieve. Editing this film was a lot of fun because i got to experiment and Jazz allowed me to have as much creative freedom as I could, and it definielty helped broaden my skills for future media projects.
The thing I learnt from this is how important to backup your files and save all your work every chance you get because you never know what could happen next. I made the mistake of not saving after a major change and I had to pay the price for that but it was a lesson learnt.
