Lost In The In-Between

Lost in the In-Between is a psychological horror and family drama that tackles and explores the struggles of relationships, divorce, loneliness, and mental illness. The short film follows Lily, a teenager experiencing distress over the disappearance of her father, who lives in China, and her emotionally and physically abusive mother, who is struggling to cope with her mental health. The story builds tension and suspense as the audience is taken through a tragic story of a mother’s health decline as she deals with divorce.
Being a production manager and an art director for Lost in the In-Between proved to be a very challenging and work-intensive role. My responsibilities were mostly significant to the making of the short film during the pre-production stage. This included organising and making documents and folders in our Google Drive folder to make the workflow as efficient as possible for our team, taking meeting notes to make sure we were on top of every assigned task, creating Excel spreadsheets containing designated tasks and when to complete them, releasing actors release forms, completing shooting schedules, creating prop lists, and finalising call sheets. All these documents and scheduling played a part in reaching deadlines with heavy time constraints due to the scope of the project and assignment due dates.
What I learned from this studio and being a production manager is how significant the role is and the mental fortitude it takes to make all stages of production as efficient and effective as possible. It requires you to make sure tasks are completed by crew members and manage others, like being the glue to group members communicating their works as smooth as possible. This was my first time being a production manager, and while it was challenging throughout this project, it was a major learning experience that I will take into my future projects.
