What is the definition of a heart? Why do we associate it with emotions? Why do we think of the heart so differently?
‘Expedition 143’ seeks to be the catalyst for personal insight into the viewer engaging with the piece. Using ‘Instagram’, a common communicative platform, as a tool to express the conceptual journey into the heart, this piece invokes self-reflection by confronting themes associated with the heart. The artists encourage viewers to observe their own interpretations of the content within the piece and question themselves how their personal experiences have influenced their interpretations.
The process of creating ‘Expedition 143’ taught us the collaborative nature of poetic lists with new media production. We discovered the active roles that both the creator and viewers play in completing a media work. To put it poetically, ‘Expedition 143’ feels like a conversation between us and our viewers in the ever-expanding idea of the heart.
