Once a victim of the dance industry’s dark side, a twenty-year-old girl revists the oath she took to never return. Sofia Bilic, a retired competitive dancer, navigates the emotionally confronting journey of returning to her childhood passion after hanging up her ballet shoes over a decade prior. Casting light on the detrimental impacts of placing severe pressure, expectations and perfectionism on children in competitive sports, Sofia sifts through her younger memories of being a dancer and how that has led her to where she is today. Intermission is a five-minute documentary short that seeks to honour one’s inner child and explore the idea of looking back in order to move forward.
