Episode 9 – Oscar Clark

Episode 9 follows Esme as she tries to connect with Eduardo during lockdown. While Eduardo continues to frustrate her, Esme finally gives up, ultimately deciding to reach out to her housemate for comfort.

This episode was constructed fairly minimally, with economic shot choices where possible. Warm light was used to create a moody atmosphere, while a non-locked-off camera allowed for a sort of fluidity. The episode was obviously shot under particularly low light, which posed numerous difficulties in both focus and grain, however I am happy with the end result. I learnt countless things during the production for this piece, but the key takeaways for me were in regards to group management and set/lighting design. On the whole, Designing Drama has improved my abilities in filmmaking like no other course has, and I expect that I will continue to use the skills I acquired this semester well into the future.
