Decoding Algorithms:Tiktok Vs Youtube Algorithm
I had honestly watched a TikTok itself on the topic and when the discussion of algorithms came about, this idea sparked in my head which I further discussed with Ruth and we further narrowed it down to difference of algorithms between two social media platforms. The TikTok that I had watched was honestly pretty informative and so I knew the basics of this topic already. After that I began reading several scholarly papers on RMIT Library as well as google scholar and I would just highlight certain information and save them all in one google doc. Then I carefully drafted the script, this wasn’t easy and I kept editing it till the last day.5-7 minutes is a long time to keep someone entertained and informed at the same time.I felt nervous about what information to include. Finally after scripting,we had presentation week where Ruth gave me an idea to interview random people about whether they preferTikTok or Youtube. I actually started with this part.Went around interviewing people. To do this I first made the people feel comfortable with me ,behind the scenes and then film them. This made the videos turn out pretty authentic and goofy. Then I started filming my part,I didn’t know how to go about this.I didn’t want just voiceovers or just piece-to-camera.I learnt the entire script and managed to do a combination of both. This is the part where I realised shooting such long videos with several cuts and re-shoots isn’t an easy task.I finally edited this video till the end moment.Overall, this was an immensely learning assignment.Being a media student,I didn’t think that I would ever take AI as a subject but somehow it helped me develop as a media professional and was the perfect blend of media and AI therefore it not only made me dive into subjects I never thought I would, but also made me learn so much more about the practicality of media.
