Summary:
Interrogating the extent to which automated systems are independent from humans, this video explainer defines key related terms and provides examples of their present day technological applications in order to comprehensively explicate the benefits, costs and impacts of automation in this digital age.
Featuring an interview with Professor Mark Sanderson, Dean of the RMIT STEM college, we discuss the use of automation to inform human involvement in the development and deployment of ubiquitous and mundane systems, programs and software.
Process:
My process of completing this assignment heavily involved drafting, scripting, sketching and creating preliminary copies to edit and improve upon. Once I had formulated the focus of the investigation, I undertook initial research into the components that contribute to the topic as a whole, unpacking each one and relating it to a broadly understood example.
Some insights I gained from this task include:
- I improved my understanding of how digital systems function, operate and are maintained
- I increased my ability to condense broad and complex information into a brief and accessible format
- I completed an academic interview with an expert which has significantly improved my confidence in the future of my involvement in the area of AI and cognitive computing.
- I learnt to take time to properly organise ideas when given freedom to do so.
- I have practically improved my technical video creating skills.
- I have built on time-management skills relevant to media production.
