Micro budget is the key concern of my studio, so I hope that my final work can be successfully convey this concept to the audience. I can say I didn’t spend any money during the whole process. Because I love shooting, So I bought a camera, tripod and microphone two years ago. During the shooting, I used my own ZV1 camera to shoot in my own apartment and did not rent another place. The actor also asked my friend to help for free and did not pay extra fee to find a professional actor. Filming is also done using a tripod to stabilize the camera and then using a Bluetooth handle to start and end. I also completed the post-editing by myself through adobe premiere. The school provides a free account, so there is no need to purchase the right to use it. During the film editing, I add two background music in the film to improve the emotion. The background music are free download in the internet without the copyright. So in order to keep my movie is micro budget, all of the production process is done by free.
If I keep going on this short film, there are two things that I want to improve, editing skills and microphone set up skills. At this moment, I just know some basic editing technology, for example the L cut and J cut, and transition the footage directly. Therefore, I really hope to improve the editing skills that help me make the transition look smoother. The second aspect that I want to improve is the microphone setup skills. During this shooting process, I used a professional microphone for the whole process. Although the sound was greatly improved, but the background noise became a problem. Compared with no microphone, although the sound was not good, but there was no problem of background noise. So I even searched from the Internet to learn how to setup the microphone to avoid the background noise, someone said need to setup the volume of the camera, so I hope next time I can actually learn how to set the microphone and improve the background noise.
I think the key challenge of this studio is the process of creative the film. I was confused when I knew I was going to make a micro budget film. Because I have no idea of the script, what story that I want to tell public. At this time, I remembered my recently experience. I thought it was good to write something real than imagine. Because the imaginary story is unrealistic and won’t be recognized by the audience, but the real story will make the audience feel the same. So I finally chose to write a real story to finish my film. Another challenge was that during a class presentation, a lot of the audience thought my movie transitions were weird and didn’t look smooth. Especially is a one scene of the camera from close-up shot to the wide shot. I had tried to change this transition several times, but it was still strange. In addition, because my footage was very short, I did not wait for more than 10 seconds when I shoot, so it was difficult to edit in the later period. I was able to successfully deal with this problem later through the guidance of teacher. He asked me to use the J cut to transit two scenes. It is letting the voice of the second character appear first, and then transition to the second scene. This method is making the transition look more comfortable and smoother.
