You Cannot Put a Fire Out

by Isabel Savenake

You Cannot Put a Fire Out is an essay film featuring three short poems from distinguished nineteenth-century poet Emily Dickinson. Though unrelated in isolation, these assorted poems unite to embody Emily’s navigation through her feelings for her closest friend, Sue. In a time period where unconventional love was forced to simmer beneath the surface, Emily drifts through feelings of youthful longing, loss and ultimately, acceptance.
