The Charlie Show

The Charlie Show Episode 1:

The Charlie Show Episode 2:

The Charlie Show

Johnny Winslow hosts the late night talk show ‘The Charlie Show’. As he interviews guest Caleb McHenly, he discovers a secret which derails the entire production. In the second episode, The now turned ‘soap opera’ sees the show take a new host, Stephanie Winslow Rose where more secrets unravel… as does the show itself. In an exploration into martial trust and the gift of divorce, The Charlie Show combines the late night talk show genre and the soap opera genre in a bid to make audiences laugh, cry and question ‘who is Charlie?’.

Pre-production

In terms of pre-production we used our class time throughout the second half of semester to brainstorm ideas, assign tasks and overcome obstacles.

Progress really got started during the producer & writers meeting during week 9 (pictured) to decide on a number of aspects. Such as the rundown of the show and its segments, characters, GFX’s and EVS we needed, etc. This was very productive and got us on the right track to go full steam ahead with pre-production.

Throughout the process everyone made efforts to get accustomed to our individual roles, trial different shots we wanted to use and decided on a set. We also completed full episode read-throughs, which were really beneficial to hear how the show would play out and adjust any timing or writing issues. Many class members also committed a lot of time outside of class such as making and sourcing GFX, writing and working on EVS such as Ben En-Bowen (pictured).

Overall, it was a reasonably smooth process thanks to our great collaborative skills and shared passion for making ‘The Charlie Show’ something we can all be proud of.
