The Home of Jellyfish and Other Things is a sensory, experimental video work that communicates the co-existence and mutability between different bodies of water and alternate forms of life. This work attempts to craft the concept of ecological intimacy through the use of audible and visual elements.
Creating this video work took us through all the different stages of production. We began by researching our medium and explored how we can craft ecological intimacy. We pitched our initial ideas to our class, where we received insightful feedback and began filming content of as many different bodies of water that we could access, as well as interviewing our main voiceover. And finally, we progressed to the editing stage, where, as a group, we organised our shots and soundscape to achieve our creative vision.
As a group, we learnt the practice of attuning to our surrounding environments, as well as how to craft ecological intimacy within a sensory video work, where our audience is able to feel and attune themselves to the emotions we attempt to evoke.
Overall, Eco Video has been an educational and rewarding experience and as a group we are grateful to have been able to work with Hannah and our class this semester!
