This project is an experimental hybrid documentary piece that blends interactivity and narrative, timeline-based film. The original question that our group made the documentary around was ‘What damages occur in urbanisation?’ Henry was more influenced by the interactivity of some projects looked at in class and I was more drawn to a character driven narrative to tell a story. We decided we could create an interesting and compelling piece by combining our favourite parts of the linearity and interactivity. The panned footage is organised into fragments and put into deliberately made sections; Section 1 observing the damages of urbanisation, Section 2 explores the consequences of urbanisation on fragile ecosystems and Section 3 looks at regrowth, hope, and restoring balance. We wanted to tell a story that has a beginning and an end, but let the user guide their own way through the story and come to their own conclusion as to how they feel about human progress.
