This is a Video Explainer that looks at the difference between dark and targeted advertising. This Explainer explores how these types of advertising have been used in the past, in both a positive and negative light. It also looks at real-world examples of dark advertising and how it could be used to negatively impact people and society. When creating this, used resources given to us in class as well as my own sources to gain an understanding of the changing advertising landscape, so that I could then begin to write the video explainers script. After conducting my own research, I then questioned whether there were any gaps in my knowledge, which then became questions that I would ask Professor Daniel Angus in my interview with him. After the zoom interview, it was just a matter of recording a voice-over and finding relavanet footage to pair with it. Earlier in the planning stage, I considered doing a couple of vox pops, so that the final piece wouldn’t feel repetitive. I ended up having time, so I interviewed a couple of my friends briefly, asking them about their basic knowledge of dark and targeted advertising. Overall I found the process in making this video explainer to be very rewarding. I not only was able to further develop my Premiere Pro skills but was able to educate myself on a topic that is actually relevant to me in everyday life.
