The Only Female In The Room

The Only Female In The Room, by Ella Tamblyn.

The Only Female In The Room is a film about producer, Karen Sproul, who has had an incredibly a vast career. The film portrays how passionate Karen is about her creative projects and how much she strongly appreciates her collaborators. As a female in the film industry, Karen has learnt to remain confident and resilient in an industry that generally discriminates against women.

I interviewed Karen in a COVID-safe manner, via zoom. I then took the 35 minutes of footage that I had, and chose to include the parts where she seemed the most passionate about what she was talking about in my final film. This portrays how much she loves her career, and will hopefully influence young women to enter the film industry.

During the interview, Karen Sproul conveyed to me the joys of being a female in the film industry, and that once you overcome barriers, you can be just as, if not even more, successful than your male co-workers. She also taught me the importance of building great relationships with those around you in order to create work that is of the highest quality.
