Plastic Trophies
Plastic Trophies is a short documentary based around my indoor soccer team. The documentary follows the team through their first season in a new competition, showcasing their skills and discussing their thought process during preseason, before reviewing the team’s in game performance while they pursue their goal of reaching the finals. The film aims to draw attention to both the highs and lows of the season, as well as providing a reflection on the team’s passion for the game.
I thoroughly enjoyed the process of producing this film. Working closely with this group of boys is always an enjoyable experience, and basing the film around the sport we all love so much made it even more entertaining. It was frustrating having to watch my team struggle while I sat on the bench recording, but having seen the final edit turn out close to how I pictured it was well worth the sacrifice. Most of the footage came out fair smoothly, although the loud echo from the stadium fans made a lot of the audio hard to work with. Editing at times was also frustrating due to software malfunctions, and COVID restrictions prevented me from recording a high quality voiceover, but I feel I worked very well with what I had available. Producing my own soundtrack was also an interesting experience. Although the beats were fairly basic, being able to create my own sounds to go along with specific cuts and edit in the film gave me much more creative freedom.
I feel my editing skills have increased through the production of the film, with my limited knowledge of the software increasing every time I began to make cuts between clips and edit audio. My skills with audio production also increased alongside the production of the film’s soundtrack. This film is fairly important to me, as both a way fro me to express my passion for sport, as well as a a means of me paying homage to my teammates whom I share so many good memories with.
I hope you all enjoy the production!
