Women have been largely ignored or objectified in video games, although there are many female characters you can find in gaming, it’s more rare to be able to actually play as one that leads their own game. Not until the 80s did they begin to appear, and even then, many of their portrayals were heavily influenced by gendered stereotypes of the time.
