Is C.G.I Ruining our Modern Day Movies?

By Phillip Trinh

The improvement of C.G.I has pushed media production in a direction unprecedented, even as recently as 20 years ago. However, as our technology improves, there is a fear that we are becoming over reliant on computers to do what we used to do ourselves. We are spending more on movies than ever before, so why do some of our biggest block busters look worse visually, then 20 or 30 years ago. In this piece we will explore if there is any truth to a belief that has been garnering a stronger voice, is C.G.I the reason our movies don’t look as good as they used to.?

A went into this piece with a stance in mind already, though it was surprisingly hard to put it into words, that could fit the small time frame. With a greater emphasis on the anecdotes of industry professionals and examples, over more strictly academic articles, I am hoping this approach will allow the viewer to relate and apply the points to their own viewing experiences.

In the end, this piece gave me the opportunity to further refine my preferred style of production, bringing me a step closer to my dream of directing a feature length piece.
