Looking Back, Moving Forward

Looking Back, Moving Forward centres around the relationship between two sisters. Jayde is visiting her local beach for the last time as she is moving to Sydney for university the next day. Elyssa, her sister joins her at the beach and they reminisce about their childhood. Jayde is seeking approval from Elyssa as she feels guilty for leaving her among a tumultuous home life. This story hopes to evoke the complexity of nostalgia and the bittersweet moments growing up calls for.

This process was a massive learning experience. From audio failings, to working with non actors it has created a metaphorical toolbox that I can use next time I direct or create a performance. Working with my close friends was rewarding and a unique experience we can look back on fondly. It also fostered a safe environment where we all felt heard and comfortable exploring a vulnerable topic close to all our hearts in some way.
