Introduction:

In 2014, Shen Tao and Zhang Jinsheng divorced, Zhang Jinsheng remarried with his son Dollar. They went to Shanghai to live. On the other way, Liang Jianjun returned to his hometown because of terminal illness, Liang Jianjun’s wife in desperation to find Shen Tao borrow money to cure the disease. As Shen Tao’s father died, Dollar returned to Fuyang to attend the funeral. Shen Tao deeply felt his son’s change, knowing that he could not stay with him, but giving him the key to his home.

In Australia in 2025, Dollar grew up. He studied at a Chinese school, meeting a teacher. And then they had a love for the past. Although Dollar has always had the key that his mother gave him, he couldn’t remember the mother’s name. He only recalled that she called Tao, the meaning of the waves.

Colour

The film uses a large number of fixed long shots to tell calmly and objectively tell the story of that era and the people in those times. In this film, the director expresses the emotions of the protagonist in color. The director used a prop to externalize the character’s emotions, namely Shen Tao’s coat. When she likes YU Jinsheng, she wears a red jacket, and red is the color of the Jinsheng car, and also the color of the Jinsheng sweater. And when she likes Liang Zi, she was wearing a blue coat, the color of Liang Zi’s coat, which showed that her heart was in him, indicating that her heart is on him. The film is unique in visual processing. In addition to the contrast, as mentioned above between red and blue, the use of green in the movie is also very SPECIAL. In real life, green represents vitality. In one scene, green is the chain on LIANGZI key, and it is a desire for survival. Another view is the slow-moving green leather train, which gives Shen Tao a deep affection for his son.  Finally, in this green gentleness, they found their own life and emotions.

Editing:

After the filming, I spent three days with Liu Yi to edit our movie. We

are booking an edit room for the school, which is more efficient and convenient than editing in our own home. First of all, I think it’s essential that we have to be together when we edit, because when we have any new ideas and problems that we could communicate and solve in time. This avoids issues that are discovered after the clip is completed, resulting in the need to re-edit. Editing together saves a lot of time.

Final idea

In this version, I used the duck as the beginning and the end. I likened the female owner to the ugly duckling. One of them is her eyes begin to go into a trance; what I want to express is that everything that happened before just was her a dream. No matter how the ugly duckling changes, it’s still an ugly duckling. It is impossible to make personal changes by imagination. Only when a person acts, similar to fitness shopping to improve his quality of life, it is possible to become a white swan. Furthermore, She wants not to be judged by others. She could only use fashion as a weapon to protect herself. Besides, we believe that clothing/physical characteristics can be seen as an idea of fashion preferences or attitudes in our films. However, in this film, we hope to let the audience feel that fashion not only represents the clothing itself but also represents people’s social status and identity.

Original idea：

The storyline and concept we want before editing is this film will have four very personal characters, each of which uses different stories to showcase. What we want to say is that we know that many people don’t like or even hate stereotypes. They don’t wish to stereotype to influence their definition of life. In this film, we try to show these four stories with stereotypes. We want to give viewers the most intuitive understanding of these stereotypes. So, what we want to convey is that when each feature is concentrated on one person, don’t guess which one is her. We have no right to define anyone. She is her own. Finally, we also shot in this order during the shooting.

The final sequence: 

In the process of editing, we have a more unique idea, and we abandoned some useless fragments in the final version because we hope to be more suitable for our movie. For example, on Monday, we showed our draft cut because the audience could not get the fountain point, we also felt that this clip was redundant in the later period, so it was deleted.

The most influential thing about this film is the use of his sound effects, which is very attractive to me. In this movie, it was evident that the director has a very personal style. He cleverly uses sound effects to create a horrible and mysterious atmosphere for the film.

One of the scenes was that Peter received a call from Alice. The director only uses human voices and a weird background for sound processing. On the one hand, Peter’s voice gradually changed from excited to frustrated, which could be seen from Peter only used one or two words as the answer when communicating with Alice. Moreover, the place where Alice calls seems to be in a mysterious corner. Visually, the audience only sees Alice’s mouth from a circle, which adds mystery to Alice’s identity. These are very intuitive and let the audience feel that the impact of hearing is more significant than the visual.

On Monday, Liuyi and I went to see how James filmed their film. I have learned a lot in it. I think they are very professional for me. First of all, each of them has different jobs, lighting, director, makeup artist, photographer, actor, and their division of labor is particularly evident. I am very envious of this. Because in my shooting with Liu Yi, everyone did not have a fixed job, resulting in some clutter in the process of the shot.

Moreover, the setting of the lights is particularly crucial in this shooting. The lights could set off the atmosphere of horror and evil, so they always pay attention to the color of the lights before shooting. I thought they spent at least an hour, adjusting the color of the lights. Also in this filming, I saw some photography equipment that I have not seen before, which makes me very excited.

The most amazing thing about shooting is the fake blood made by the makeup artist. I think it looks very realistic and fascinating.

Finally, on this extraordinary study journey, I learned how to modulate the color of the light better until I think it is satisfied. This time I saw how James is effective communication between a director and an actor, and he tells an actor how he could act better and say to the camera which angle he needs, perspective, which also allows me to learn how to be a director.

Post：11 Filming Reflection

The final shot was completed in two days. On Saturday, we were shooting indoors in the school library, hotel, and gym. We are shooting outdoors on Sunday. 4 different scenes were selected for 4 scenes

Time：First of all, time is really precious to us, because the actor was late for the day, which caused us to delay the shooting time. But fortunately, we have reserved enough time to complete this filming work. At the same time, our actors are very dedicated. We didn’t spend a lot of time in one scene, which saved us some precious time.

Schedule：The schedule is essential in our shooting. We proceeded every step as planned. When we encountered any problems or shooting problems, we immediate changed on the original plan. This makes our plan clearer.

Light：The lights played an essential role in this shooting. Each scene required different lights, so we asked a person to be responsible for the lighting. At the same time, we borrowed a light panel from the school. It has two sides, one side is glare reflective, and the other side is soft reflective light.

Reflection：I learned a lot during this shoot, and what I want to say the most important is to prepare plan b for everything. Because a plan may not be able to keep up with changes. Moreover, about time, taking enough time to shoot anything to deal with unexpected problems. Finally, the schedule must be clear and straightforward. If it is too complicated, it will take more time to communicate.

These two ads are my favorite short fashion films, one of which is Vogue, and the other is Prada. First of all, the two films use distinctive colors to set off the atmosphere, one is bright yellow, and the other is green. The first film is about the cycle of the story, and the whole movie is full of fashion elements all the time. My understanding of this film is that fashion is an infinite loop. The project we expect to shoot in 2 days, which are this Saturday and this Sunday. On Saturday morning, we booked the room of the library from 10:00 am to 12:00 PM, and then the scene in the elevator was from 12:30 pm to 14:30 pm we chose the lift of the friend’s apartment in the preliminary decision, but at the end we found a more suitable elevator in the school library. Another primary reason is that it is more convenient to shoot in and out. After the scene in the hotel, we expect it to be from 15:00 to 18:00. Moreover, due to time constraints and outdoor lighting issues, we will be very focused on time. On Sunday, we will complete all the plays in dockland from 10:00 to 14:00. Furthermore, because I didn’t pay attention to the problem of lighting in the last homework, the sun went down, and the whole room was very dark at night. There was no light at the end, and the entire picture quality was too heavy. This is the biggest mistake in my last work. This time I will pay great attention to this issue. So we hope we can have plenty of time, we chose to shoot for two days. We also added several options at the location.

In terms of photographic equipment, we will use DSLR|Canon EOS 5D Mark 4. Panel light, a tripod is basic needs, and we will use DJI Handheld gimbal stabilizer as there are some shots we need to follow the character run and walk. We had cameras and DJI Handheld gimbal stabilizers, so we borrowed tripods and lights from the school.
