During discussion, our group has decided to add background music in the flashback part, the choice of song will be decide by the actress. I have asked her to give me few songs that she thinks to play an important role in her dance life so far, either could be an inspiration; the reason that makes her dance; the song that she first choreographed a dance; or can be just the favourite song that she likes to do inprovisation dance.
The song Carina has chosen is ‘7 years’ by Lukas Graham, the lyrics is about the role of parents in our life and also about grow, how experience force people grow faster.
Q: What was the reason that makes you choose this song to represent your ‘memories/experiences’?
Carina: This song is talking about parents but it is also talking about one’s growth, how to survive in this big big world and how people always learn better from their experiences.
She told me that this song stays with her teengage years when she first arrived to Newzeland by herself, she struggles to get use to the new environment. She met her dance crew, met a lot of new friends there and started to get use to the new environment, this song was the first song that she learnt her dance mentor’s dance choreography.
Since we have started editing and discussed with Robin, we discovered we are very unsure about how to sequence the flashback scene, initially during my planning parts, I really want it to be strong and distinguish with the present scenes. There were two edited version of flashback scene so far, they both start of by the reception person from the studio writing up the date on the blackboard – 2014. The first version will be the flashback scene flows fluently when the character comes into the studio with her friends, just to show the differences that she has friends besides them when she first arrives. The second version is to break down the flashback scene and plays simutanesouly while the character dance, which means when the character puts her earphones on and once the music starts to flow she is being pulled back to her memories. However, we are still adjusting the colour tone for the whole film becuase we need to change the flashback’s colour tone in order to make it looks more like a memory scene and they link fluently to one another.
