  • Glitch art is a popular element in China now, especially on some video apps. From my perspective, the main reason leads to its popularity is the cool way to present aesthetics. In addition, both lighting and color grading are significant parts of achieving the final effect. They will make the production have the sense of future and fashion.
  • YUEN is a film director who is good at using the style of glitches arts. His works, such as Like A Mercedes, inspired me to make a film with glitch art style.

<The pre-production process>

  • For the portrait video, I would like to mix the fashion theme with the glitch art style. The idea of fashion videos is base on the fashion videos presentation I went before. Instead of narrative films, they just film pieces of clips, repeat some shot and use some simple camera movement. However, their final works still impressed me strongly. Thus, these two ideas combined the content of portrait.

<The production process>

  • Instead of a normal angle for narrative films, I adjusted the angle of the camera to try a new view of shooting. Besides, I use my own room as the location because I want to add the element of the mirror in this film. In order to match up with colors of the sunglass and the actress’ eyeshadow, I choose the orange color lamp slice. Besides, I closed the door and pulled down shades to avoid other light. Then, just using various shot sizes and camera movements to film.

  • Firstly, I cut the film into pieces. Secondly, copy, paste and drop to the next track. Thirdly, I adjusted the opacity lower and moved the position. As a result, the frame had the effect of ghosting. Additionally, I also leave intervals between shots to make the transitions more fluent. Next, the Horizontal Flip effect can make the film more interesting. The final step I did is color grading. However, I did not add pink to the whole video. I still want to show the change between clips to match with the glitch effect. Along with, it is significant to find a suitable music and make frames match with the rhythm.
  • In conclusion, I won’t call this video a short film. It is more like one trial learning of glitch art or an idea of some styles I would like to use in my future works.
