“Alone”—Post-Apocalyptic Short Film Analyse

  • Although this film is only about 6 mins, it has two conversions to surprise the audience. The first one is that the man wakes up from the dream. The second one is that the light turn on when he just said he is the only one in this plant. This set is great because it leaves audiences imagination.
  • At first, it is only the normal scene of a businessman in his office, nothing special. The director uses several frame and camera movement to show the scene, such as rule of thirds, mid-shot, cutaway shots, rack focus, and pan, etc.
  • After a while, a man in black comes in and give a report to the man. At the start, it makes me feel weird that there is only a mid-shot focus on the tummy of the man in black. No shot for the face at all. After finish the film, I think it is may because the man was supposed the only human in this plant and this is his monologue. Thus, everyone except is not supposed to show up in this film. He should be alone.
  • The color grade of this film is warm and comfortable.
  • It uses the effect of the surrounding fog to show the flashback. It is clear and easy to make the audience realize it is the flashback scene. However, I prefer the expression by using the different color grade. For example, the flashback in 13 reasons why using yellow color to achieve the effect. For me, it looks more elaborate.
  • From my perspective, one of the greatest parts of this film
is the soundtrack. It has added various details sounds in the film. As a result, it makes the soundtrack more splendid and makes the film more real for audiences. For example, they added the sound of the heartbeat when the man wakes up. Besides, they even noticed the sound of setting the cup down when there is a sound of the telephone message.
  • Besides, this film has shown a lot of details about the environment.
