Reflect on the findings from class exercises and homework.

The first class of box studio is concern to learn getting ready for filming. At the beginning, we wrote a guide of camera and tripod. Besides, we learnt the different function of various buttons. Next, we had a try of setting the technical index. However, I am still confusing about what are the correct parameter for WB, exposure and Focal Length. After that, we did a exercise as a group about a shot with different types of shot, such as wide shot, middle shot and close up. This is the first time of using camera to film. The most significant thing I learnt from the first film is filming enough as I need. I have to make sure that I have enough shots for editing. Otherwise, we can not finish the scene.

Our homework is about a shot of ourself and editing it. For my part, I think I did a good control about colour. Besides, I did show all the things this scene need. However, I am supposed to avoid  the unnecessary people in this shot to extrude the main character. We also watch and analyse others works. The thing I learned is to make a connection between sound and vision. For instance, I can let sound and vision fall down together at the end. There is a question I haven’t figure out, how to show a person as 2 in 1 scene?

We are supposed to set up a editing folder as a media server. There are some rules to remember, never trash anything, move anything or change the name of anything. In order to find the shot easily, we should  arrange them systematically.

I learned from the homework called ‘make the bed’ is that we are better not shot with black and white clothes. The exposure will change strongly, it may destroy the scene.

The last two class is concern to a exercise called LENNY. Our group chose to film the scene in two different ways. We did a one-shot first and I got some reflection. When we want to show the walking of character, we can move the camera as the same speed as the character. Even there may be shake of the camera, it’s works well here because it can show the quicker steps of the character. Besides, we can put down the camera and up the lens to show looking up of the character. Then we did various shot from different angle as we learned. Re-shot is necessary when we have a new idea or there is not enough shot can be used. For the dialogue part, I also make some notes. Firstly, When we film dialogue, we only use one camera. We can not control several camera at the same time. Secondly, there is no order for shot. However, there should be corresponding between different angles. Angle degrees are supposed to be the same as the other side. Thirdly, there may be some barrier for us to do film. We can change the distance between the character and the camera because audience can not find the change of distance in some situations.
