Future Machina Week 3

This week in class we looked at how film scores were created and the use of Midi Keyboards. And played around with some online music generations tools that use Ai to assist you. We also spent the two sessions watching our drafts to give each other feedback, and make sure that we are on track to make something in brief. Originally I was going to do something about autonomous labour, but Scott had a very similar idea, so I decided to alter it into an apple ad parody for a brain chip. I wasn’t wuite sure on the direction I wanted to take it in, so my draft was pretty bare bones besides having a fairly accurate presentation.

We also discussed the different studios located in Melbourne, and the work opportunities they could provide after we graduate. specifically looing at Luma Studios and Method Studios. But it appears as though you need computer science degrees to find work with either, or experience with node effect programs, which is outside my skill set currently. I’m more interested in independent work currently anyway.

Future Machina Week 2

This week we took a look at deep fakes. Deep fakes are videos created through the use of Ai. Using hours of footage from someone, artificial intelligence is able to reconstruct the likeness and expressiveness, then layer their face onto someone else. This has a variety of potential dangers in the future. Because the graphic isn’t computer generated, but harvested from real life footage, the better and cleaner this process becomes the more fake misleading videos can be made. which brings up multiple problems when it comes to personal identity and authenticity. similarly these new ‘Ai influencers’ pose the same problem. I believe they should be banned because it would be incredibly easy for propaganda to be spread by companies through them.

For the activity in the studio we learnt how to use a green screen and a zoom H4n. Luckily i have been very familiar with these for a few years now. as part of the exercise i made a joke video based on the classic ‘I’m tired of Earth’ speech by Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen.

Future Machina Week 1

For this semester of university I decided to do the ‘FUTURE MACHINA’ studio. I decided on this because in my last studio it was primarily focused on experimenting with audio and video. With this studio I see the opportunity to learn about new concepts and broaden the range of my thinking when it comes to developing short films and future ideas. This week we focused primarily on the content we’ll be going through for the semester as well as the age of A.I. Artificial intelligence is on the frontier of innovation when it comes to technological advancement, and was only considered science fiction a few decades ago; now it surrounds us everywhere. From social media to transportation systems. We also set up our submission folders and discussed the mode of submission. Talks of assignment one started, with a pitch on what we’ll be creating due next week in our first in person session.
