A Change of Plans

After three semesters of Media, I think (definitely know) I should know better by now that things are never going to go the way you want them to go. You set out to achieve a plan with grand ideas and are convinced you can be consistent in producing material, but something (work/life/laziness) always gets in the way and you never end up getting as much done as you’d like to.

My initial proposal was that I investigate a variety of time compression/editing techniques by creating a series of exercises throughout weeks seven to twelve. However, as it is always the case, before you know it it’s already week 10 and you haven’t done nearly as much work as you hoped to.

After a bit of a mental blank this weekend and spending too much time being stressed at the thought of doing work instead of actually doing it, I have devised a hopefully more achievable plan for the remaining weeks. I will focus on investigating match cuts, and create an exercise and research each of the categories of match cuts I’ve written about in a previous post: graphic, action, metaphorical and audio. Readings and reflections on completing the exercises will support the practical work.
