Location Tests (Places Part 1)

On Monday afternoon I had some spare time since my afternoon class was cancelled, so I set out around the city to try and find some potential places to film that are not the typical city intersection. I found myself wondering down Spring Street, around Parliament House and Treasury Gardens, and then down at the graffiti lanes near Fed Square. I’m still not entirely sure if I want to end up filming at either of these places yet, and also not entirely sure what exactly what I want to shoot, but I’ve compiled little snippets of all the locations for future reference and for a quick exercise in capturing space.

I shot these handheld with just a kit lens on an SLR, and there was no colour grading or any fancy editing on the clips so they’re not the greatest quality. I’m also not too happy with how some of the shots turned out, but I do like the Hosier Lane video and thought I found some interesting shots in there, like the first one of the graffiti artist with the shallow depth of field. This was a start to investigating how to capture a place in a way that represents the unique parts of what it is, and a test for editing a collection of shots together to form a (somewhat) coherent product.
