Week 9 Workshop: Creating of media platform

Today in the workshop, Alana and I had a really helpful discussion with Robbie that gave us many ideas about how to go forward with our project. We’ve decided to create a multi media platform with a Tumblr website as a basis. Each group member will be a contributor to this site and post different pieces that collaborate and contrast with each other. We’ve already created a blog on Tumblr and found a work in progress title and tagline. We were thinking that we could start with writing some articles using the material we found in the annotated bibliography exercise, and I had the idea to compare the trending topics on social media with the front page headlines of newspapers on the same day and link this research with some of my readings. In the future we were thinking of interviewing someone like Brian to get his opinion on the revolution of media institutions, and Robbie gave the idea to interview an editor from a small newspaper production and ask about how they filter material to decide what makes the paper. Alaine unfortunately could not be here but she suggested some good ideas involving the political economy theory. I now have a better understanding of what we are hoping to achieve with the end product of this project brief as well as a better understanding of the relationship between new and traditional media. I think we are doing well and on the right track. By next Monday’s meeting we will  aim to create a rough draft of one media piece we hope to include in the website.
