Week 12 Reflection

Since week 12 was the filming week and the reflection on that will be in the projects’ individual posts, I’m going to reflect on the studio in general and my experience with it.

As someone who’s really oblivious to the surrounding and the real world, I find this studio helpful in a way that makes me realize that there’s so much inspiration that we can take from our daily lives. Most of the time I find my life and the reality boring, I still think so. And I think that’s why I’m very into cinema and filmmaking, because it allows me to escape from the dullness and enter a better world, even create a better world. I think that’s why there’s art, because people find their lives boring and void, that there needs to be something that’s different from the daily lives to hold on to. My ideas on films are always far from what reality looks like and my preference in genre is mainly sci-fis. Because I find them refreshing and it’s interesting to look at unusual things. I find it exciting to see a better or worse universe in films because I find being in this universe 24/7 sucks a lot. And whenever I see what’s on the news it sucks even more.

But after listening to other people’s observations and interesting encounters in their lives, I might have changed my view on reality just a little bit. I find it fascinating that they find beauty in the most common things we see and adapt them into an artistic form. That is a great ability that I feel like I lack, because in order to do that, you have to have passion for life and patience for people. It’s not that I don’t, I simply find it hard to observe things on purpose and force something out of it. And I know it shouldn’t be an exhausting process and it should come very naturally and effortlessly, but I just feel like I don’t have the time or energy to pay attention to the things around me. But I do think this is a good start for me to start building up this skill because I think it’s important for filmmakers to notice what’s going on with the real world and make films that help people acknowledge social issues or realize how good or bad the world we live in is.

Overall, I don’t think I’ve gotten the most out of this studio but I do feel like I’ve tried my best to understand the concept and practice the skills in observing and adapting ideas. I think that this is a necessary lesson for me in life because I had to learn to notice the beauty of life and how great it is to be in the present.
